Bluefoot Architecture & Design is an award-winning interior design and architecture firm serving Bainbridge Island from our studio in Poulsbo. On the island we design kitchens and bathrooms, living and dining spaces, custom cabinetry and built-ins, color and material palettes, furniture layout and lighting, for a single room or a whole home. Interior design is led by interior designer Michele Doyle and her team, working alongside Principal Architect Jay Volz when walls or structure change. Our interior design was named Best Interior Designer for North and South Kitsap in the 2026 Best of Kitsap awards. To book a design consultation, call 360-602-2965 or tell us about your project.
We select finishes and materials in the room they are going into, not under showroom lighting, and review them with you on site before anything is ordered. See all of our interior design services, our architectural design services, or working with an architect on Bainbridge Island.
What our Bainbridge Island interior design services cover:

The kitchen is where the household gathers, so we plan it around workflow, storage and materials, and design for how the room is really used, not how it photographs empty.
Spa-inspired bathrooms with considered tile, custom vanities, smart storage and fixtures chosen to handle daily use — and finishes selected to look right in Pacific Northwest light rather than under showroom bulbs.
Open living rooms and cosy dens arranged around light, view and conversation, with furniture layouts that stay easy to move through.
Light changes dramatically between seasons in the Pacific Northwest. We build curated palettes and material boards, then test them in your rooms at different times of day before anything is committed.
We design built-ins, walk-in closets, mudrooms and pantry systems that use the space you already have and match the rest of the home.
We have designed interiors on the island before, from a Bainbridge Island home built around Puget Sound light to a third-storey loft conversion that found new square footage by going up. We start with your habits and routines, not a look, and the design follows the way the house gets used.
Looking for an interior designer near you? Our studio is at 18820 Front St NE, Suite 210, Poulsbo, WA 98370 (get directions), open Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm. We serve Bainbridge Island and the rest of Kitsap County, including Poulsbo, Silverdale, Bremerton and Port Orchard.
Good interiors are not accidental. Our process keeps a Bainbridge Island project on track from the first conversation to final styling, so you always know what happens next.
Collaborative from day one: we listen first, then design. Every material choice, layout decision and colour selection is grounded in your input and refined by our experience — and reviewed on site, in your light, before anything is ordered.
The City of Bainbridge Island lists painting, papering, tiling, carpeting, cabinets, countertops and similar finish work as exempt from a building permit. Exempt work must still meet the City’s zoning and critical-area rules.
The City’s residential permit handout (revised May 2023) requires a building permit before any work involving framing, sheetrock, insulation or other remodel work, so a kitchen that moves a wall is a permitted project.
Replacing or relocating plumbing fixtures or mechanical equipment needs a plumbing or mechanical permit from the City, and demolition needs a permit of its own.
Electrical work on Bainbridge Island is permitted and inspected by Washington State Labor & Industries, not the City. Our Bainbridge Island building permit guide walks through each step.

It depends on the work. The City exempts finish work such as painting, tiling, carpeting, cabinets and countertops. Work involving framing, sheetrock or insulation needs a City building permit first, relocating plumbing fixtures or mechanical equipment needs a plumbing or mechanical permit, and electrical work is permitted by Washington State Labor & Industries. Yes, and it is the best way to work. Architecture and interior design sit in one studio, so finishes, cabinetry, lighting and furniture layout are planned alongside the structure instead of fitted in afterwards. See our work as an architect on Bainbridge Island.
Five phases. Discovery: we tour your home, discuss your goals and set the scope. Concept Design: mood boards, space plans and initial material palettes. Design Development: we refine fixtures, finishes, furniture and custom elements. Documentation: the specifications and drawings your contractors need. Styling and Install: we coordinate delivery, oversee installation and handle the final styling.
